Howdy TWiT Army!
I was wondering if ya'll might help me beat on the www.digitallifetv.com server again.
And I'd love to know how it looked at your end: clean feed, good video... or not: if you'd send an email to digitallifetv@ziffdavis.com to let me know, that'd be great!
Should be a good show: We've got LG's VX9800 SMS phone, free antispyware and antivirus tools, Guitar Hero, info on broadband boosters and a ton of answers to quetions about HDTVs.
The video stream goes live 9 PM EST, 6 PM PST, 01:00:00 UTC (for you folks outside of the US). We start the servers 15 minutes before we go live and run a countdown clock until we launch the show.
Howdy all!
We're broadcasting Episode 05 of DigitalLifeTV tonight at 9PM Eastern, 6PM Pacific.
It requires the Windows Media Player (and a broadband connection) to watch it live.
The link goes up around 5:45... and we'll be IPcasting from our half built studio.
iPod nano, OpenOffice 2.0 beta, demos of F.E.A.R, Age of Empires III and Serious Sam II, viewer questions and lots more. Like the ButtKicker Gamer (you'll have to watch to find out), and a most excellent sub-$100 laser printer.
Anyhow, if everybody could dogpile on that link, I'd be so thrilled... we're trying to see what the live server can take.
So, um, if you're not doing anything around 1PM PST (4PM EST) you can check out a live IPTV/online tv broadcast thing we're doing over at Ziff Davis...
www.digitallifetv.com
...it does require the Windows Media Player to watch it live.
Later on today we'll have archived version you can download at your whim.
Wheeeee!
ADDED 2:55:
1) Yup, we're having mad audio problems... we're got new mics and some training coming.
2) We're still getting used to the Newtek Tricaster for switching the show ... we're on our third Tricaster, since we had a software crash on the first one and a hardware problem on the second... that cut down into our rehersal/learn how to switch the show time. Beyond that it's an amazing box.
My apologies on the delay on delivery, but yesterday was the first full day on a new job (12 hours... counting time spent w/ HR paperwork... joy.), and today's the second.
A big thankee to Robert for updating ya, since I was offline until fairly late last night.

Leo's back in the saddle for Episode 0014 this Sunday. That should get us back on track for Sunday night delivery.
Howdy all... couple of quick things. First off, AOL will have no impact on our content, except to make it faster for ya'll to download it. So stop worrying about that.
Second, we really want to thank EVERYONE that's pitched in so hard w/ server bandwidth, torrent hosting, and a general good spirited drive to make TWiT as easy as possible to download!
Third... AOL, for whatever you might think of the software on the disk that arrives w/ the supermarket ads, knows a bit about dealing w/ massive amounts o' data... and, no there are no AOL ads in the podcast, nor are we making any money off of their hosting us... tho we are stoked about having enough bandwidth in one place for everybody to hit.
Wanna try the fastest TWiT download ever?
Check this out!
Thanks to AOL (and epecially our fairy godmother over there, Jeff!) for a ridiculously fast feed!
We'll have the iTunes feed pointing to this ASAP (if it's OK w/ AOL) and you can go ahead and fire up ye olde iPodderX.
Whatever's bothering you probably isn't that big a deal.
If you're even more out of the loop than I am, then, well, go to Google news and search on London and you'll find out that three Underground stations and a bus were bombed today.
To borrow Wil Wheaton's phrase "send some mojo."
My Mom would probably suggest prayers.
In any case, take a moment and send them some goodwill in whatever fashion you see fit... even if you're not one of the persons wondering if friends, coworkers or family are among lost or injured.
My apologies for the delay. The editing studio is in Petaluma, I'm in San Francisco, I moved into a new house this weekend, and I'm working on a new job this week.
And I had no idea how much I'd forgotten about editing audio.
No excuse for TWiT being late, I agree, but I wanted to let ya'll know I haven't just been sitting around the house playing Battlefield 2 on the new cable modem and mainlining organic cheetos from the local co-op.
Fresh TwiT tonight, I promise!
P
Wow... so I post a story on ExtremeiPod about Apple releasing iTunes 4.9, which adds support for podcasts, and going photo on the entire lineup, which is now a 20GB photo, a 60GB photo and the US iPod... install the software, click on the podcasts link... and find that we're both 4th and 15th in the top podcasts.
Weird... until you start clicking on 'em. The #4 links to this WEEK in Tech, our FeedBurner links, and #15, TWiT: Boookmarkable... links to the AAC Bittorent files.
OK, it's still weird. But in a cool kinda surreal way. Maybe it's all the beatings we took at TTV for not beating out Monday Night Curling in Eastern Canada. (We knocked 'em dead in North Jersey, tho!)
For those of you that avoid radio, TV, and most websites, the Supreme Court delivered its ruling in MGM vs. Grokster:
This is what you might call a 'big win' for the record companies an movie studios if you didn't realize that a)Bittorrent's kinda hard to crush and b) it's kinda hard to stop offshore companies from picking up the P2P slack. Should be intersting to see what happens to Grokster et al after this.
